The holiday season is a great way to enjoy Kansas' trademark rustic charm. Here are some holiday events in Northeast Kansas that you and your family will enjoy and treasure in the years to come.

The Polar Express Train Ride

Go inside the world of classic literature and modern cinema by booking a ride on the Polar Express train in Baldwin City. During the one-hour trip, you'll get to relive the magical journey through storytelling while enjoying a cookie and hot chocolate. This event is a definite must for parents with elementary-age children and anyone who is a fan of the film. The train will tour until the 30th of December.

The Lawrence Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade

The town of Lawrence is known to pull out all the stops to showcase and celebrate old American Christmas traditions for the past two decades. The Lawrence Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade features people in old garb or santa costumes, real horse-drawn carriages traipsing across Massachusetts Street, and chuckwagons decorated with bells, wreaths, and garlands. The event is perfect for young families who want to teach their kids more about their heritage and their holidays. This year's parade will be on the 7th of December and will start at 11:00 in the morning.

Holiday Trolley Lights Tour

If you'd like to go for something experiential, hop on Topeka's famous Holly Trolley! The Trolley tours will be on the 7th of December at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. It'll go around town starting at Iron Rail Brewing, The Pennant, Cyrus Hotel, and stop at Winter Wonderland at TARC.

Gingerbread House Building Contest

Joining a fun contest is a great way to spread the holiday cheer with family and friends. Happy Basset Brewing Company in Topeka is holding its 2nd Annual Gingerbread House Building Contest on the 14th of December at one o'clock in the afternoon. You can even adorn the gingerbread home from the kit you bought with edible decors from home.

Deck the Halls Floral Workshop

Learn how to create floral holiday decors for the home using cones, berries, fruits, and laid greens so that you could go DIY this holiday season (and the seasons after). Blue Morning Glory will hold its Deck the Halls Floral Workshop on the 8th of December at the Ruff House Art along Massachusetts Street. The workshop starts at 1:00 pm.
