If you're moving to a new city or state or relocating to Northeast Kansas by 2020, then you need to do the following:

Set a moving budget.

Moving from one city or state to another is expensive. An out-of-state move usually costs thousands of dollars, so you need to budget for it wisely. You can either hire professional movers, rent the services of a reputable interstate moving company, or do the move yourself.  You can rent out portable moving containers or a truck that you can drive to the city or state you are relocating to. Remember to save up extra for unexpected expenses. Moving residences usually cost $2,500 to $4,300, depending on how you'd like to do it.

Once you get to your new home city or home state, then check if all your belongings arrived and in good condition.

Plan how you'll pack stuff.

Moving experts advise packing non-essentials first (like books, console games, or sports equipment) before essential ones that you use daily, such as kitchen items and toiletries. Donate anything that you don't need to charity, and keep all documents in clear envelopes with labels.

Contact your utility companies.

Tell your water, electricity, sewer, cable, satellite, and internet providers that you're relocating. Schedule installation dates with your cable, satellite and internet providers once you get a new address.

Forward your mail.

Go to the US Postal Service's website and inform then when you'd like them to start sending your mail to your new home. You can also opt to rent a PO Box.

Tell people that you are relocating.

Inform family and close friends that you're moving. The easiest way to do it is to share your new address over e-mail.
